Operations · Improve Working Capital

The asset register against the operating reality. Utilization lifted, availability held, disposal where the productivity gains release the asset.

Fleet utilization against nameplate. Planned versus unplanned ratios. Asset consolidation and disposal after productivity gains. The capability that converts operating discipline into capital release.

Asset utilization moves on two fronts. The asset's availability against nameplate is held by the maintenance and reliability discipline; the asset register's structural sizing is held by the productivity discipline that releases capacity. Where productivity lifts, the asset register can rationalise; where rationalisation lands, working capital is released. Proudfoot installs both fronts as one operating discipline.

Operations
01

Where asset utilization leaks.

Asset utilization leaks at two points. The asset's availability against nameplate is below the reachable standard; the planned versus unplanned ratio is wrong; the reliability profile of the critical assets does not match the design intent. The asset register itself is sized against legacy operating reality; once productivity lifts the throughput per asset, the asset register can carry less without compromising operating output.

The capability sits at the intersection of operations, maintenance, and capital. The lever is structural and operational. The discipline is the same operating discipline that delivers the rest of the operations surface; the application is the asset register and the fleet.

02

One sub-capability surface, two operating fronts.

  • Asset consolidation and disposal after productivity gains

Productivity at the operator and supervisor level lifts the throughput per asset. Once the per-asset throughput holds, the asset register can rationalise: assets disposed where the productivity gains release them, fleet consolidated where the operating reality permits, capital released back to the business. The discipline is to release capital after the productivity has held, not before.

  • Fleet and asset availability against nameplate

Operating availability lifted through reliability-centred maintenance and planned shutdown discipline. The asset performs against the nameplate the design intended, not the degraded standard the operating reality has settled for.

  • Planned versus unplanned ratios

The maintenance discipline holds the ratio at the right band; reactive maintenance gives way to planned and predictive. The shift in the ratio is the shift in the cost base and the availability profile together.

  • Asset reliability profile

RCM run against the critical-asset register; failure modes addressed at the right intervention level. Reliability is the long-tail utilisation lever; the gain compounds over the operating year.

03

Where asset utilization discipline runs.

Most visible across:

  • Mining: fleet utilization, planned versus unplanned downtime, asset availability against nameplate.
  • Aerospace and Defence: MRO operations, fleet availability, certification-bound asset register.
  • Oil and Gas: refinery uptime, upstream availability, midstream reliability.
  • Energy and Utilities: generation fleet availability, network reliability, capital program execution.
  • Manufacturing: line availability, multi-asset productivity, fleet rationalisation after productivity.
  • Cement and Building Materials: kiln uptime, fleet utilization, planned overhaul discipline.

Asset Management. Production.

Improve Asset Utilization is most visible across two functions.

The Production function carries the upstream half of the lever: productivity at the operator level releases the asset, and the asset register rationalises only once the per-asset throughput has held.

05

The methodology backbone.

The Proudfoot System runs the engagement across 5 phases and 86 steps. The Proudfoot MOS (the 6+4 Element Framework) holds the operating cadence; the 8 Active Management Behaviours (8AMBs) are the supervisory behaviors; Aerial Mapping structures the executive interview at engagement entry; MOS Critic scores the operating system.

The full methodology lives on the methodology page.

What it looks like when it lands.

Mining processing plant · Latin America

Planned versus unplanned maintenance ratio improved across concentrator and SAG mill.

Reliability-centred maintenance installed across the critical-asset register; asset availability against nameplate lifted shift after shift.

Generation fleet · North America

Combined-cycle gas turbine fleet availability lifted through planned maintenance discipline.

The asset register reviewed against the productivity gains, releasing capital where the operating reality permitted consolidation.

Aerospace MRO · North America

Fleet availability on commercial aircraft heavy maintenance lifted.

Certification-bound asset register rationalised against the productivity discipline holding the per-asset throughput.

Five days on the asset.

Two senior Proudfoot operators on the priority site for five working days. Proudfoot AI reading the asset data, the maintenance patterns, and the corpus first, remotely. MOS Critic on the operating system, day-in-the-life-of observation on the maintenance supervisor, quantified opportunity hypothesis sized to the asset utilization lever.
